Meet Our Pastor!

Pastor Ellis K. Carson is an Elder in Full Connection of the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. He has served as the Pastor of the Mt. Tabor - Celia Phelps charge since July 1, 2017.
His ministry emphases include a foundation on prayer, a passion for God’s Word, demonstrating the love of God, spiritual development for all ages, dynamic worship, community engagement and development.
Rev. Carson currently serves on the Council on Finance and Administration of the WNC Conference, on the Leadership Team for the WNC Licensing School through Candler School of Theology at Emory University, and on the Board of Managers for the Convocation and Pastor’s School at Duke Divinity School. He also serves as the Coordinator for the Call to Nurture Young or New Black Clergy for BMCR.
Previously, Rev. Carson served as the Pastor of the Central - St. Stephen charge in Thomasville and Lexington. He served as Assistant Pastor of St. Paul UMC in Winston-Salem, a Ministry Intern at Mount Pleasant UMC in Greensboro, and as a Chaplain Intern at the Greensboro Urban Ministry. Prior to living in Greensboro, he served in various ministry capacities as a layperson at Windsor Village UMC, Houston, TX.
For ten years, Rev. Carson was the owner of Fisher Recruiting Consultants, Inc. He is a 2011 Master of Divinity graduate of Duke Divinity School and holds a Bachelor's degree in Mathematical Sciences from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is a graduate of the Baltimore County, Maryland Public School system.
Rev. Carson is the husband of Dr. Terri J. Carson. They have three children.
